BICYCLE

Easy to print

Did you know that :

  • 20% of Quebec cyclists use their bikes as an occasional means of transportation?

  • 6% of them use it as their main means of transportation? On the island of Montreal, this proportion climbs to 14%
  Tons of advantages

  • In the city, bikes are faster than cars for distances under 5 kilometres. It’s no wonder courier companies use bike messengers.

  • Bikes are cheaper! On average, bikes cost $200 per year for maintenance and accessories.

  • You don't need to look for parking.

  • Bikes don't pollute.

  • Bike-riding is an excellent form of exercise.

  • You can enjoy the view as you pedal your way to work.

  Smart safety tips

  • Wear a helmet when riding your bike in order to reduce the risk of injuries. Head injuries account for 60% of all cycling deaths.

  • Obey traffic regulations to the same degree as if you were driving a car. More than 70% of accidents involving bicycles are caused by the cyclist negligence.

  • Lock your bike properly. Make sure that your wheel and frame are properly secured to the bike rack.

  • Stay visible when riding at night. Wear coloured or reflective clothing and equip your bike with reflectors and lights (white in the front, red in the back), this is mandatory.

  • Use bike paths whenever possible. Your ride will be safer and a lot more fun.

  • Keep your bike in good condition: tires properly inflated, handlebars and seat at the right height for a safer, more comfortable ride.
