Smart way to go
As well as fast, reliable, economical and relaxing. The greater Montreal area benefits from a vast and well-developed public transit network that converges towards the downtown core. Why not use it?
- It’s cheaper:
A 60-kilometer commute by public transit can cost up to 10 times less than using your car.
- It’s faster:
It takes 24 minutes to travel from the Brossard-Chevrier park-and-ride lot to downtown Montreal thanks to the Pont Champlain reserved lane. It often takes twice as long by car.
- It’s cleaner:
Buses produce up to 9 times less greenhouse gases than cars. Because it’s electrically powered, the metro is even cleaner.
- It’s more relaxing!
You can use your bus or metro ride to read a book, catch up with the news or just daydream…

One busload of passengers takes 40 to 50 vehicles off the road during rush hour, saves 70,000 litres of fuel and avoids over 175 tons of emissions a year.

Park-and-ride lots
What if there is no public transit in your area? Not a problem, you can commute the first part of the trip by car or bicycle and park at one of the 53 park-and-ride lots of the public transit network. Then, you can jump on the bus, the train or the metro and zip downtown. No more traffic! And parking is free! It’s wonderful.

Tax credits
As of July 1, 2006, users can claim a 15% tax credit for the cost of the monthly public transit passes in their federal income tax returns.
The federal tax credits can be claimed by the user or by his/her spouse or common law partner for the admissible costs of public transport of the user, his/her spouse or common law partner and his/her dependent children ages 19 or younger. Public transit users who wish to claim the credit should save their receipts for verification purposes.
